About Charts – These tutu size charts are based on estimates and should ONLY be used for approximating your elastic and tulle measurements. We encourage you to always use a measuring tape to accurately take your child’s measurements.

Elastic Waistband Measurement Chart

To calculate the proper measurement of your elastic waistband, measure your child’s waist and subtract 2 inches to ensure a snug fit (the elastic stretches).

The totals are calculated on tying 3 knots per inch of waistband.

Preparing Waistband For A Tutu

Before your begin making your first tutu, you need to prepare a waistband.
Step 1
Measure your child’s waist using a measuring tape. Unroll your non-roll elastic on your cutting mat.
Step 2
Subtract 2 inches from your child’s waist measurement before making your cut to ensure a snug fit. (you want the elastic to be smaller than your child’s waist)
Step 3
Hold the elastic waistband in place and make a straight cut using your rotary cutter. You may also use a pair of fabric scissors for this step.

Cutting Tulle For A Tutu

Learning how to properly cut tulle is essential for making the perfect tutu!
Step 1
Unroll your tulle across the cutting mat keeping the end lined up with at the 0″ mark. Line up the tulle strip with the grid on the cutting mat.
Step 2
Place the ruler’s edge where you will be making your cut.
Step 3
Roll your rotary cutter over the tulle using the non-slip ruler as a guide.
Step 4
